Spoiled Brats?

I was listening to a talk show, and thought the host of this particular program made a short, but great point.

He's about 55 yrs. old, and suggested that he can't remember any other time during his life when people have thought of themselves as entitled to so many things as people do in the U.S. today. Some examples he gave included people buying new homes every few years because they get bored with their existing home, kids being given cell phones in the 4th grade, individuals & companies expecting bailouts from the government when their risks fail, the jealous neighbors wanting to make more money to keep up with the family down the street, wanting the government to do more and more for them all the time, etc.

He ended his brief monologue with the statement, "We're a nation of spoiled brats!"

I agree. Most people in the U.S. don't know the difference between genuine needs vs. wants anymore. They are more than willing to make their own choices -- and don't want anyone else telling them whether they are good or bad. But, then they are unwilling to accept any negative consequences of their choices, and to take it upon themselves to deal with those consequences. It's easier to push their problems onto someone else -- especially when the government is enabling that behavior by giving out free money and bailouts.

Even the Bible talks about negative consequences people will pay for bad choices (I'm thinking primarily of Proverbs at the moment).
